Kids and the Internet Privacy

Kids and privacy. Adults may think its not something that important as to the cliche thoughts - why do kids need privacy? There's nothing they have to be private off.

Well, in contrary to that, the internet does not look at it that way. It preys on kids as they are vulnerable to a lot of content through the internet. Businesse target kids and believe it or not, kids are an essential contribution to the market out there. Yes, they really are. Parents see the need to please their child upon them stumbling into any of their favourite toy or book and so on. Internet advertising, online chatrooms and social networking sites have a way of invading into their privacy and violate them as target audience. How do they work? Its as simple as the little information kids fill up such as name, gender, and so on. Marketers buy their personal informations. Easy deal.

Kids safe sites exist to ensure that their personal information do not get extracted and end up in wrong hands. In fact, there has been laws put up to ensure the safety of kids and their privacy on the internet such as, COPA (Child Online Protection Law).  Yes, there are laws billed up but are they actually making a difference? There are reports over the years suggesting otherwise but on the other side of the bridge, would things be worse if such laws weren't done? Privacy is for every man. Including a child. Its just my point of view, what is yours? Feel free to comment, afterall, opinions matter.
